How Does Laser tattoo removal work?

The Enlighten III uses a laser to remove ink from the skin's surface by breaking down the ink of the tattoo.

The laser treatment causes the ink particles to disintegrate so that the pigmentation can be safely absorbed and excreted through the body's immune system. This process causes the tattoo to fade progressively with each treatment until it is gone.

Is LASER TATTOO REMOVAL IS SAFE?

Laser Tattoo Removal is the safest, most effective method for tattoo removal.

The EnlightenIII laser by Cutera uses Pico-technology and Nanotechnology to quickly lighten and remove pigment without breaking or causing any permanent damage to the skin.

You can count on our Enlighten to safely remove ink colors on any skin type without scaring or discoloration.

IS TATTOO REMOVAL PAINFUL?

We know that Laser Tattoo Removal has a reputation for being quite a painful procedure. Here at Miami Ink Off, we are able to provide the most painless experience possible. Thanks to our licensed on-staff practitioners, we are not limited to the ineffective numbing creams and cold compresses you will find elsewhere. At Miami Ink Off, we offer injectable, local anesthesia and vitreous oxide (a non-narcotic pain reliever).

HOW MANY TREATMENTS will it take to remove a tattoo?

The number of treatments required to completely remove a tattoo depends on several factors. The main contributing factors are the size, color, type of ink used, location on the body, and how old the tattoo is.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS IS COMMON?

Typically, the number of sessions required can range from six to ten to fully remove a tattoo. During our private consultation, we will provide both a price estimate and the number of sessions that it will take for your tattoo to be fully removed.

factors that affect the tattoo removal process;

Age of the tattoo:
Overtime, the density of the ink subsides, making older tattoos easier to remove. For example, grandpa’s old sailor tattoo is faded as compared to the dark color when the tattoo was first placed.

Size:
Larger tattoos typically take more time and sessions. A small finger tattoo will be easier to remove than a tattoo that covers the entire back.

Color:
Darker ink may take more sessions to remove as there are typically more particles for the laser to break down than lighter/faded ink. In addition, white or skin color ink tattoos may first oxidize when treated, turning into a light brown color, which will require additional laser treatment(s) to remove fully.

Location:
Since the laser works by breaking down the particles of ink to be absorbed and excreted by the body, tattoos on areas of the body with less blood circulation will be more challenging to remove. For instance, a tattoo on the hand will take longer to remove than one found on the torso due to higher blood circulation.

Skin Color:
The lighter one's skin tone, the easier it will be for the laser to remove the tattoo.

Cover-Ups:
Suppose you have had a tattoo covered up by another tattoo. In that case, the additional layer of ink increases the time it will take to remove.

Professional Work:
Suppose you had tattoos performed by a professional tattoo artist. In this instance, the ink used will typically be denser, making it more difficult to remove than tattoos by an amateur tattoo artist.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I WAIT IN BETWEEN SESSIONS?

Although the laser manufacturer recommends 6 to 8 weeks between treatments, in our experience, we have found that waiting 12 weeks between treatments helps to reduce skin discoloration. We have also found that waiting 12 weeks has enabled us to reduce the number of sessions required for removal as the body's immune system continues to remove more ink particles.

Moreover, patients with darker complexions may need more than 12 weeks between treatments to avoid skin hypo-pigmentation from the laser treatment.

What ink colors CAN THE LASER REMOVE?

Our Enlighten Laser can remove all ink colors on any skin types.

WHAT IS THE RISK OF SCARRING?

With any laser treatment there is a small risk of scaring; this happens because the layer of ink has to be heated in order to be removed.
Here at Miami Ink Off we have had excellent results removing a tattoo without scarring by adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Our highly trained staff will be sure to use optimal laser settings, specifically selected according to your unique pigment and skin tone.
  • Scheduling 12 weeks between treatments allows the skin to heal correctly, thus eliminating any skin discoloration or scarring.
  • Finally, our post-treatment instructions should be properly followed to prevent you from having any adverse reactions.

WHAT DOES THE LASER DO TO THE INK PARTICLE?

The tattoo removal laser emits short and intense pulses of light onto the top layers of skin where the ink is present. These light pulses cause the ink to break up into tiny particles that the body can absorb.
Our Enlighten III automatically adapts to the optimal parameters for the size and color of the tattoo.
Each ink color responds to a unique wavelength of light produced by our Enlighten Laser, therefore, only specific colors will react and break up, leaving the surrounding skin untouched.

WHAT IS PICOSECOND TECHNOLOGY FOR?

Picosecond technology destroys tiny ink particles that the older lasers left behind. The past tattoo removal lasers left a faded tattoo or scarring of the skin.
With the advent of the Picosecond setting, the Laser will emit light at a trillionth of a second. allowing for the complete tattoo removal without permanent scarring or skin discoloring.

WHY DOES THE LASER NEED NANO & PICOSECOND TO REMOVE A TATTOO SUCCESSFULLY?

The Picosecond and Nanosecond timing of the laser works in conjunction to break up the ink into particles the body can absorb

First, the laser uses the Nanosecond setting to break up the large ink particles.

Nanosecond laser hits big ink particles

Afterward, the laser hits the remaining ink particles with the Picosecond setting, thus breaking up the remaining ink molecule into a size that the body can absorb and remove.

Benefit of Combining Nanosecond and Picosecond Technology?

These two types of technology complement each other when going through the tattoo removal process—allowing it to be more comfortable on the skin while limiting any scaring.

HOW PICO & NANO AFFECT THE TATTOO REMOVAL PROCESS?

The following video explains how this Picosecond and Nanosecond work together to clear up all tattoo ink colors without damaging the surrounding skin.

Ink Color & Wavelengths?

Each color of ink responds to a unique laser wavelength. Thus by choosing the correct wavelength for each color ink, the laser only destroys the ink particle, leaving no skin damage to the treated area.

Benefit of the Enlighten III Laser?

Our Enlighten III Laser features three fully-integrated laser wavelengths – 532 nm, 670 nm, and 1064 nm.
These different wavelengths can remove all ink colors, even those challenging blue and green tattoos, without damaging the skin with residual scarring or any permanent discoloration.

Reducing the chance of Skin Lightening

Before the Picosecond technology laser started, hypopigmentation or a "lightening of your skin color" was a common side effect of tattoo removal.
Now the picosecond laser vastly reduces the odds of this occurring. This is because the Pico technology only heats the ink for a billionth of a second, allowing your skin to heal between pulses.

DOES IT HURT?

During the procedure, you can expect discomfort. The feeling has been described as a rubber band snapping against the skin.
The larger the tattoo, the greater the discomfort as the heat starts accumulating during the procedure. If you have a lower pain tolerance, nitrous oxide or lidocaine injections may be recommended for the tattoo removal treatment.

Miami Ink Off uses Nitrous Sedation TO REMOVE YOUR TATTOO PAINLESSLY!

Miami Ink Off uses Nitrouseal, the gold standard in Nitrous Oxide Analgesia.
Nitrouseal provides an opioid-free solution for pain reduction and anxiety.
